My rear bushings were shot, so I replaced them with a poly set a few months ago. They're ALREADY starting to squeak, mostly the driver's side when taking off around corners. I don't want to have to regrease these every couple months. I've seen bushings available for other cars that have a teflon liner on them that are supposedly greaseless. Do these exist for our cars? Is there a durable teflon tape of some sort I can wrap around the bar to serve the same purpose? Should I just drill the bushing and mount to accept a zerk fitting or something?
I think mine start to squeak enough to bother me enough that I grease them once or twice a year, but my car hasn't gotten the normal level of use for the last year for a number of reasons. What grease do you use?
Without grease fittings you can't grease them at all unless they are disassembled and the original grease has a finite lifetime. After a few years mine were squeeking and when they were taken apart there was wear from lack of grease so they were cleaned and grease fittings were added. After a year there is no squeeking and while the car is up for other work I'll give them a shot of silicone grease so they remain lubricated.
Just grease 'em and it'll go away. It lasted forever the last time I did it.
I can't grease them without taking the whole bar off, which would suck since the last application only lasted a few months. Granted, the bar slid like 2 inches off center before I applied some clamps, so I may have lost much of ther grease.
Yep, the same thread sealing tape plumbers use. Can get at home depot for a few bucks.
Really? There's no adhesive. Figured it would just kind of slough off. I have like 5 rolls of the blue stuff because I can never remember if I have any when I'm doing a plumbing project.
