Looking for some advise on selecting some 243 heads. Locally I can find them for $400 but those are straight off the car. There is a ton of cool information on here about porting and milling the deck etc and I am all for doing that if its money well spent. That being said whats my best route here ? Buy the used ones and get the work done, buy some that someone is selling that has had all the work done already or would something like the link below be a good starting point ?
Texas Speed has CNC ported 799/243s with your choice of combustion chamber volume and stainless valves for $1400 per pair - though you still need springs at that price. If you buy used at $400, then spend $500 (minimum) for porting plus another $200 for valve work it starts to add up fast.
Good head of u can find then new stamped 243 look online eBay as much as hate to say it .....look for 243 performance gm heads ...those will contain the light weight valves u seek...and a little more of a beefy spring it’s still a beehive style but the coils look more durable you’ll see that right off ...porting vs not porting I would just leave them untouched buy your gaskets and some decent high performance anodized pushrods something really durable beyond stock and call it a day ...good time as well to clean up the pistons heads from carbon... get new intake ( I do not recommend fel pros junk *** seals they don’t last ...get good quality seals good luck on your hunt
