I have a 2001 Z51 coupe with 6 speed. My car makes around 400 horsepower. The car has 50,000 miles on it. The left rear cv joint boot near the differential is ripped. It has not been ripped long. Estimating maybe 100 miles. I have looked enough to know it is hard just to buy the boot. I have also noticed many options to replace the entire half shaft.. I need some good recommendations on what to buy. I really don't believe I need the $2000 bullit proof ones for high horsepower. I have seen prices from $330 each for factory replacements. I have also seen half shafts from Advance for $75 each. I want something good however the extreme performance ones are overkill for my car. Also, should I replace both while doing the job. Please give me some recommendations.
Try this part # 88952506 for boot only... do you know why it ripped? If the parts are good I would install a new boot. I have disassembled mine before due to the internal keeper ring came off.
I have pretty much the same setup. I replaced a axle with a factory GM part. I went that direction because the aftermarket axles use really cheap boots that have been known to balloon at speed and take out brake lines.
Thanks feeder, that's the kind of info I'm looking for. I will probably do this job over the winter. I didn't know if any of the aftermarket half shafts were an option. Now I have good reason to spend the extra money and buy the GM ones.
TY Feeder, I understand why they balloon out at speed. Should I replace both at the same time or will I be OK replacing the one with the damaged boot. When I do the job I want my car to be reliable. TY for your help.

If it anit broke, don't bother, other than the occasional leaking boot, I haven't seen to many axle failures without the abuse of hard launches, wheel hop or drag radials
