Default 04 Z06 pre purchase result questions

I am looking into purchasing an 04 Z06 with 18k miles. Engine mods look to be intake, heads, headers, exhaust, and cammed. Engine mods are at least 12 years old with 9k miles on them. Car interior and exterior are clean and well taken care of. Car has not been tracked by current owner (2nd) not sure what first owner did the 4 years he had it but based on mods assuming it saw some track time.

Before buying i had a few questions i thought the forum could help me with:

- which mods can be seen in the pics?
- any input on quality of the aftermarket intake and heads?
- given the mods how concerned should i be with valvetrain possibly still being sick? My assumption is that it is not stock but i don't know.
- what is circled in red? It is not currently connected to anything.
- what is the deal with all of the rusty bolts? Too much engine cleaning?
- car is also showing p0327 and p0332 codes when driven relatively hard. Based on forum research could this be corrosion due to over washing engine or was that only really on 2002 and prior cars?
- the engine codes concern me. Any thoughts on if a tune should fix this? Also potential that sensors are counterfeit as i believe they were recently replaced. I don't hear any knocking/ pinging and neither has current owner or his mechanic.
- other code is b0441

seems that most of your intake bolts etc.. are rusty. was this car sitting next to the ocean or a body of water? dont like what I see. salt water is the cause of rusty bolts. not too much washing. it is an even layer of rust on every bolt. wonder what that does to the electronics?? look deeper.

Your knock sensor DTC’s can be bad aftermarket sensors...P0441 is EVAP “no flow during purge”...it may be related to that fitting circled in red...do you see my pic with the arrow ??...that is the connector that allows the purge flow to be drawn into the intake manifold...do you see this on your engine ??...the circled part is the purge solenoid.

...follow the line back to the purge valve solenoid.

The item in the red circle looks like it may be a bleed screw. Perhaps a clutch bleeder. Kind of a funny place for it though if a clutch bleeder.

Agree, red circle item appears to be bleeder for clutch slave cylinder. If so, that's a great thing to have.

Those bolts are rusty because they are **** chinese bolts. The other fasteners (the OEM ones) in the pictures aren't rusty.

What is the asking price? Me? Depending on the price I would look for a virgin one vs. one that has been modified, but again, depends on the price.

Thank you all for the responses. I took it to a friend who is a mechanic and corvette guy. He said the mods were well done professionally and thought the codes could likely be tuned out. The asking price is $21k - thoughts on price?

Price sounds okay on the surface but a project car with check engine lights is an incomplete project car. If they could be tuned out, why weren't they? What else isn't finished that you havent seen?

First off, you have the FAST Intake Manifold (IM), unknown motor Throttle Body (TB), some sort of, aftermarket air bridge, red, and, what looks like the stock airbox.

Might I suggest a vararam intake system true cold air! They have questionable fit and finish, but work the best are proven

By themselves heads cam (H/C) cars are not inherently prone to fail, they have better valvetrain after all, and the heads are not consumable, cam is good to go, the life of the motor, should be!

Yeah don;t know wtf that is, some sort of external solenoid it seems, hmph..

Sure replace the springs, good measure don't know how many of those modded miles were on the motor, if you know what I mean wink wink. I definitely would if I were you

Would be a great platform to work with, I'm envious!

Totally agree about the bolts. These are SHCS, socket head cap screws. Even made in USA socket heads will rust if exposed to the elements. They have only a black oxide finish, which does little except make them shiny black when new, and they are used on a variety of machinery that's used INDOORS. Factory bolts are PLATED. They resist rust much better, but the SHCS look nice when first installed. But they don't look nice for too long......

One other thing you may want to check out. This may, or may not be important to you, but look for the tire repair kit. Previous owners are well known for removing these, keeping them for awhile, then selling them online somewhere. There should be a 12v air pump, and other items. I'm sure a Z06 owner can chime in with exactly what is in the kit. If it doesn't matter to you, then disregard my post........

AFR heads. Likely 205’s. Very nice parts. Fast intake, LS2 throttle body.
I bet it runs well.
Those codes should be easy to fix.

I’d say the price is fair. Should you choose to put it back to stock, you can get good money for the parts that are on it now.
