I have an 04 Coupe have an odd predicament going on. When I bought it a couple of weeks ago had one fob they couldnt get a second fob program to it. they gave me a second fob for me to try programming cuz I'm pretty handy with stuff.
Oddly, I can get either fob programmed as the first fob, and neither fob will program as the second fob. So basically both fobs work but can't get both of them program simultaneously, regardless of which one's in first or second position. I've read through the forms I'm not sure what to do here. I'm hoping somebody has an idea. Thanks in advance David
Do you have a #1 and a #2 fob? Numbers are on the back, not sure if you can or cannot program 2 of the same number? Just a thought.
Pretty sure those numbers are just for reference on the factory fobs, I bought a pair of matching red fobs on Amazon and both programmed just fine. Also The OP should try new fobs as they are pretty cheap I think my red ones were less than $20 for the pair.
Thanks all. So the rub of this is that neither fob is oem. Both were give to us by the used car dealer. One was programmed. They said they tried several other fobs and non would program as the second fob. So they had this issue. The car will accept either one as the forst fob, but neither one as the second fob. When either one is programmed as the first fob it works perfectly, and regardless of which one I try second it will not program. Guess I could buy a pair of fobs and report back. So we know the batteries on the fobs work and the car battery is new. Just seems like the software is whacked. Any other ideas.
Are you saying have both fobs physically outside of car, put the key in and start programming then put fobs in car? Is there a way to clear the fobs registered out of memory in the cars memory?

When you first get into key fob setup, push Reset button on DIC. It will erase all fobs in memory, then you start fresh relearning your 2 key fobs.

Thank you for the clarification. I did that several times. Only 1 will program, either one, but only 1.. The second will not no matter which one I do first.. So odd.
I don't know if it could be checked with a Tech II unit? May someone with one will post a reply. Would it be possible to change it from 3 key fobs down to only 1 key fob? See if you can get it over to Tech forum vs general.

I have never used the programming on my fobs thru the dic. I have always held the lock/unlock buttons till the car beeped and my fobs have always worked using this method. I have a 98 don't know if that makes a difference or not, but is worth a try.
