Default C5 Windows

I have a 2004 C5 it's got 7200 miles on it. One window would not go down now neither window will go down. There is a click noise in the door panel when hitting the down button.
Any ideas?

The regulators are not Vette specific, they have lots of POS plastic parts which get brittle over time. You can get new ones from Rockauto or Amazon. Search the forum for installation instructions with pics. Good luck.

This is a common problem with all GM cars. Sometimes a good wack with a rubber hammer will get them to work again. I took the inner door panel off and wacked the door frame a few times and it started working again. A GM dealer mechanic told me about it.

Before replacing anything, suggest trying the WACK method. Post #3. It worked for me with no further problems.

I would suppose the clicking is from an energized motor trying to move, but can't. I am not aware of any relays in the activation, which might cause a click, the window button sends a signal to the computer , which then powers the window .

On my 03 the lift mechanism was fine , and because of the care required on a convertible to get the window adjustment just right, I didn't mess with it. I didn't think the regulator a POS design, I thought the cable and nylon wheels a good way to lower weight over the usual punched steel scissors style levers found elsewhere.

My problem was the motor, which I replaced locally with an imported non GM part because it appeared identical to pictures of the factory part, which was also an import, and electric motors are pretty simple anyway. Plus, odds were good that not too many Mexican parts producers were cranking out exact replacement GM style electric window lift motors, so I was probably ok going off brand for such a simple part..

It was an easy clean job to replace the motor, except I regretfully broke a couple of fastener clips before I figured out what was up. A lot of places just sell the entire regulator assembly, I had to look a little deeper to find just the motor, the only part I needed.

The motor is a closed can design, which, as the brushes wear, traps the carbon brush dust , keeping everything clean, but eventually creates a pile of dust that reaches the motor and shorts it out. People impact the motor case to shake the dust away from the electrical contacts and restore function. I went for replacement with a 45 dollar motor, whacking the door wasn't really my style, although effective solutions are never discarded. I needed to get into the door anyway, because I could hear something shift in the door under hard cornering. Sure enough, I found a socket laying down in the bottom of the door frame , forgotten in some long ago repair. I got the car used.

All the best with the repair.
