Where did this broken spring come from ?

Where did this broken spring come from ?
I have a 2003 Standard Shift Convertible. I found this broken spring below my brake & clutch pedals but I can't figure out what it was attached to before it broke..
I looked under the dash and there was a similar spring (not broken) attached to my clutch pedal, but nothing attached to my brake pedal.
There doesn't appear to be any place for a spring to be attached to the brake pedal --- so where did this broken spring come from. Does the clutch pedal have 2 springs?
Both pedals (Clutch & Brake) seem to feel and work fine.
Anybody know where this spring came from so I can order a new spring and replace it?

Looks like the clutch pedal over-center spring. Mine was half-broken too. FYI your clutch pedal feel will be heavier without that spring fully intact.
