My 97 C5 A/T ac compressor is going bad, leaking dye/freon @ clutch seam. Questions is will 97-04 C5 ac compressor fit my C5?
I'm thinking of finding a used one. New one I saw in on Amazon one for $225.00( I think this is bosch brand suppose to be OEM part?) and OEM around $325.00

Bosch is not oem. Check Rock Auto for suitable replacement. Oem is a seven piston compressor. Some aftermarket units are five. Either will work

97 - 04 all use the same Delphi 7 cylinder variable displacement compressor.

I suggest you spend the money on the Delphi service compressor if you are going to all the work to replace it. Seems like they are going for about $250.

You described it as leaking at the clutch seam so I am guessing you see dye and oil being slung out by the pulley. If that is the case, there is a lip seal which is accessible by removing the clutch and it is servicable.

A 4 Seasons V7 brand Compressor in Michigan goes for $335.00 tax included. I've heard good things, and nothing bad about them, yet......

I can’t think of a good reason to buy something other than the Delphi OEM service compressor. It’s about $250 on Amazon. Four Seasons and any other after market has to reverse engineer their models.

I tend to agree on OEM parts, but not always. I'm still running my original compressor, and its 20 years old. Reverse engineering can be a good thing, as some flaws may be present in original designs. The 4 seasons compressor is a good compressor. So is Sanden. If OEM designs are better, aftermarket oil pressure sensors wouldn't be lasting as long as, or longer, than OEM sensors. All 3 compressors are good options, in my opinion. There's also counterfeit brands out there, and Amazon has been accused of, unintentionally, peddling some of them. NGK spark plugs come to mind. As expensive as this item is, along with it being labor intensive to replace, I believe I'd buy the item locally, but thats just me. Honestly, when I need a new one, it will be either an OEM, 4 seasons, or a Sanden, whoever has the best deal at the time.....
