My driver side headlight is stuck in the down position. The gear is stripped badly enough to not catch enough to pull it up manually. Turning the **** doesn't help, it wont catch a gear at all and spins around freely. How do I get to the motor to remove it?
From what I can see on mine is you're going to have to forcefully pull up on the headlight assy while turning the ****. The gear's already messed up so it won't matter if you mess it up more.
I had a stripped gear issue. I first disassembled the motor and turned the gear 180 degrees. Did not work for me. So I bought a new gear. That did not work either, as I saw later that the motor pivoted enough from the gear housing that it would still skip. Now I could try and JB weld the thing so it's firm but I decided to Rockauto a new gear for about $125 and get over it.
If the gear is totally and completely stripped, you may be able to just lift the headlight up.
I'd like to add something here. It's not a mechanical problem like OP has,, at least not yet. But I have the same problem. Mine is electric. Every once in awhile, my drivers side won't come up. If I pop the hood open, and just turn the **** maybe 5 or 10°, up it goes. Then I can turn the lights off and on for the next week, or more with no problem. Last time it worked for at least a month. I attribute it to never driving at night. Something in the motor, or relay, doesn't make a good connection somewhere. I hardly ever drive at night anymore, so now when I take the car out during the day, I use the lights a couple times. Problem solved, though it's a different problem than the OP has. Hope this helps someone......
Just a side note. It takes quite a few turns of the **** before it will begin to raise. The other thing to try is applying some lift on the lid while turning the ****.

I believe you need new bump stops. They get worn (dented) over time and one of the lower ones (there are 4 total per light) is dented enough that it's allowing the motor to travel too far. Most people just flip the bump stops over but if you want new ones: http://rodneydickman.com/product_inf...roducts_id=309
