Hi, I recently got a 99 C5 and it didn't come with a key fob.
I've been searching and reading up on this and to my understanding any 1997-2000 C5 key fob should work for my car and that the 01+ key fobs will not work.
1997-2000 fobs are overpriced and I don't care about the passive feature.
Is it possible to use a key fob from another GM product? I've heard mentions of 96-99 Cadillac/Buick fobs potentially working but couldn't find a solid answer/example.
Thanks.
I think we're screwed. Most electronic parts on the '97-'00 are NOT interchangeable with the '01-up models. I have a 2000. I'm not aware of any way around it, unless you buy an '01-up receiver/antenna, which can be had, for a price. I can't remember what else is involved, but generally speaking it's more feasible to bite the bullet and get the FOB for your model year, and be done with it. The EBCM, however, is another matter.......
I upgraded my receiver to a 2003 from a 1998. It was just a swap out as all the wiring is identical. I was then able to buy two new fobs on Ebay for $10.00. However you must also upgrade your tire sensors. By the time you're finished it's around $200.00 for everything but then you're up to date on everything.
