Code P0101 serious knocking sound after major modifications
Have had the following modifications done. Done about 3000km. Suddenly today, car felt "rough" whilst driving when reaching 3000revs. I drove another 50km before needing to slow down. Idling extremely rough. threatening to switch off. Taking into a tech 2 scanner. Cylinders 3,5,6,7 and 8 weak. tech scanner found code P0101. Told it is a problem with the cam and more major work needs doing. Am i in trouble??

"P0101 Mass Air Flow (MAF) System performance -B"
Check your MAF first. Also, my friend had a bad IAT sensor wire that had similiar symptons.

Can't tell you man, it could be a mojor problem and driving it further may be bad to the engine.
However, my friend drove his car like crazy even with the engine all screwed up. And there was no problems.
Why don't you check the electric connection to the MAF and IAT first? It could be just a loose wire or leaky air tube?

Re: Code P0101 serious knocking sound after major modifications (alc2001)
Mechanics have been unable to find the problem. Diagnostic code P0101 keeps coming up. Placed on dyno: flattens out after 2500 revs and no loss of oil pressure so unlikely to be the cams.. knocking noise is at idle and up to about 1000 revs then evens out and comes back above 3000 revs... Any help needed please

Not sure what your knocking noise sounds like... Problem sounds sort of like a vacuum leak to me except that you describe the knocking as serious. Is is slow and "thud like"? Fast and "clicking"? Something else?
Another thing that could potentially result in your P0101 is your PCM tuning if the MAF table is wacked out. I doubt that's the case here since the problem didn't show up till well after your mods.
Is that the only code set? Were they able to get the freeze frame data for it (so you could see the conditions under which it set)?
I owe you an email.

Re: Code P0101 serious knocking sound after major modifications (ToplessTexan)
yep they did, but i understand that Katech have changed the springs they were using since then.probably because there was a problem....With all the other modifications I did get 294 KW at the rear wheels on the dyno. Was that too much for the valve springs... mostly daily driving although I do get up to about 220km/h regularly.
Are you still coming to NZ and are you keen to catch up
