Default C1284 / C1285 Codes

I am trying to run downC1284 and C1285 errors. My scantool does not let me see the live values of the lateral accelerometer voltage. What scan tool should I get on a budget? I have autotel al519 now. I assume it cannot be as easy as replacing the lateral sensor. Also recommendations for a good ebcm repair company.

Thank you in advance!

Mine is a 2003. I have read about absfixer but seems like everyone said to stay away. I am also reading that if your code is c1284 it is not repairable, not sure if that is true or not. I would love to hear from someone that may have used absfixer or had this code. Just crazy as many people have trouble with these parts and nobody makes them remanufactured.

You may have a bad sensor, wiring, or EBCM. You can measure the voltages right at the sensor...it's 3 wires...5 volt ref., a low ref.(ground) and a signal wire. How much you looking to spend ??...you can get a Chinese clone Tech 2 for $300-$400 dollars...best thing is that it has bi directional capabilities !!

I measured at the connector and it read 4.95v. It is supposed to read .15v - 4.85v, but that is without the accelerometer connected. I really would prefer not to spend $300 on a scanner. I like buying tools but thankfully I have used the cheapo scanner I own maybe one time. It bi-directional capability what I am looking for?

You still need to check the low reference and signal...you would jump the 5 volt ref. to the signal and see if the PCM via the scan tool is seeing 5 volts but unfortunately you can’t see that voltage with your scan tool... you may just have to shot gun parts and hopefully it won’t cost you more than a Tech 2 would cost...you don’t need a bi directional scan tool but it would help down the road with future issues you may have...nice being able to turn things like fans, pumps, solenoids, etc on and off.

Thanks Jason, I have found the problem. It was the lateral accelerometer, thankfully.

I just used your repair service by eBay and have received my EBCM back, I just haven't installed it yet. Very quick turnaround.
