Default Code C1233 EBMC

I know there is a lot of information on this topic. I have followed most of the advice I have found on the forum. I have a 2002 Z06 18,000 miles. I am getting C1233 code. After I clear the code it is come back on when I hit about 65mph. I can drive it for days and stay under 65 mph and the code never returns.

I have tried the following:
  • Switch the right and left wire harness that plug into the speed sensor, no change in code, also cleaned and check the connectors (male and female).
  • Tested the resistance and voltage of both front speed sensors, both seem to be in spec.
  • Cleaned grounds near the front fender wells.
  • While connected to my scanner monitored the wheel speeds they are always the same.
  • I ran jumper wires from the left side to the right side on both wheel speed sensors, drove the care still same code.
I suspect that I either have a problem in the wiring harness or a problem with the EBCM. The solder repair on the EBCM I have read about doesn’t seem to address this code.

Any thoughts?

The C1233 indicate RF wheelspeed sensor . Have you verified every connection point (C108 and C148 ) for good continuity including the EBCM terminals ?

I am still struggle with this. Today I noticed the code returned but I checked it before I turned the car off and it displayed a s a history code. My question is does the C1233 code ever appear as a current code or will it always be a h code?

My guess is that you have a temporary error (open circuit/short) appearing in a short period of time.
I you get a permanent short/open circuit then DTC 1233 should stay on Current permanent .

If someone could connect a scanner like Tech2 and monitor these speed signals and catch these signals when DTC 1233 appear you may get some more info .

Or you can replace wiring and RF speed sensor and see if it makes any difference

Thanks that is what I was thinking. I did use a Tech 2 monitor we could not see any change in the speed reported by the sensor. I am still thinking I have a wiring/connector problem but I cant seem to find and fix it. Very frustrating.

I did check the continuity, all good. The problem seems to be a quick short and them back to being ok. I think the problem is in the wires after the wire harness that plugs into the sensor or maybe at the connector at the EBMC. I am thinking about bypassing all of the wires in the harness all the way to the EBMC connector, I just hate to start cutting wires.

I agree to bypass the stock wires for this speedsensor seems to be the next step to try to solve the problem and solder the new wires in both ends .
If the alarm still pop up after this wire wiremodification a new speedsensor seems to needed

Maybe but I put jumper wires from the left wheel to the right and right to left, got the same error. A wheel nearing would be a cheaper fix.

In my case I tried everything related to connection issues and nothing worked. I had to replace the EBMC. Easy job but had to pay $650 for the used part.

Idler pulley came loose which caused the belt to whip around, cutting the abs wire. I crimped the wire back on but the code still on. I already bought and changed that plug in wire that goes from the wheel hub sensor to the plug sitting on the frame. That didn't work. So, its either wheel sensor, ebcm or maybe the belt damaged another part of the wire i haven't seen yet.

I would continue to do all of the wire testing. It is not too hard to test the continuity for all the wires from the sensor to the EBMC.

I also created a jumper that ran between the left and right front wheel sensors. If you have a wire issue that should change the code.
