Anyone else have an engine squeak (near front of engine) when cold. The sound seems to be coming from somewhere under the alternator or near water pump (more toward drivers side of front of engine). The sound goes away after a short drive as engine warms up. It is not the electric air pump.
It may be a pulley. is there anyway to grease or oil a pulley?
You did not post the year of your C5 - but here goes.
Chevrolet issued a TSB for 1997 - 1999 Corvettes (and 1998-1999 Camary / Firebird) equippped with the LS1 engine, regarding an enqine squeak.
It involves replacing the idler pulley (below the alternator) with an new / revised idler pulley with a stronger bearing race. The labor allowance is 0.3 hours.
My 1999 had the same squeak and the dealer replaced the idler pulley under the new car warranty - it eliminated the noise.
I have the same problem on a '00. So far, the dealer has replaced my alternator twice and supposedly did the tensioner update. The squeak is STILL there. Is there anything else I can do????
Could the TSB apply to 00 as well? Looks like it's simple job and tensioner is fairly cheap (under $50)...
I have the same problem. But the bigger problem is that my car just ran out of warranty befor the noise started :mad So, does any one have the part # of the item that needs to be replaced? I am sure I could do it myself just need the new parts :D
