Hi fellow corvette lovers! Just picked up an 01 z06 torch red with 60k miles. Noticed when I brake from higher speeds that I feel thudding that feels like it’s coming from either the middle of the car or rear and not the front. No vibration at all in the steering wheel or brake pedal. Got car inspected and was told there was 50% life left. Wanted to get some input on what it could be. No thudding at lower speeds and seems to happen when braking above 50 mph
I'd suspect pad material contamination on one or more rotors. Does the pedal pulse in any way while this is occuring? 'twer it me, I'd pull the wheels and scrub the rotors with acetone and course steel wool -- Skotch-Brite doesn't work well with acetone. Do a double check for rotor warpage, but I doubt you'll find any. Use some 80 grit to deglaze the pads, re-assemble and see if it makes any difference.
Mind, you can probably buy new rotors and pads for about the same money as that time investment. Although pulling the rear rotors can be a serious pain...
