Shim or no shim?
Installing a Luk 04-905 LS7 clutch kit. Going with a new GM slave cylinder and housing. No shims upon disassembly.
I have both clutches assembled with bolts. Old one on the left, new one on the right.
There are some design changes. I’m finding the fingers on the new one are 2mm lower.
Is this enough to require a shim on my slave cylinder?
Thanks!

Measure it and you'll know.

The only way to know for sure is to measure. I needed to shim my slave to get my disengagement where it should be and not close to the floor.

I’ll be measuring once I get the clutch and slave cylinder. I was thinking there was a way to check with it out of the car; something about “installed height”. I better do it the right way or I may be sorry.

I followed Tick’s instructions and it worked out great. A metal straight edge and a dial caliper was all I needed. I measured 4 times and averaged the numbers together to get a useful measurement, and I ended up using the middle thickness shim. Hope it’s smooth for ya.

Well I still can’t figure out how to get the darn spring off the slave cylinder so I can get it to sit down on the base to take that portion of the measurement. Any tips on this?

Wouldn’t just be this measurement? If this was positioned down on the base, this would be my measurement correct?

Not really. Take a look at this video - it does a decent job of explaining the whole process.
