Default Ignition switch

My ignition switch isnt turning all the way off. The cylinder stays in the acc position if I jiggle it to the off position security issues arise. Found a used switch/cylinder combo with key of course on eBay for cheap looks like an easy change out. But my question is will computer need to relearn the key or be programmed for the new key? Or is it just easy plug and play?

I recently switched out my ignition and cylinder. I used my original key and rekeyed the new cylinder to my keys. The key fits snug now and no error codes. No “relearning” required as long as you use the same keys.

There are no smarts in the ignition switch, so a swap will not require any relearn in the BCM the resistor in the key is read by contacts in the bezel portion, I will look through the post for ignition switch repair, since worn contacts will wreak havoc and endless error on the electrical system

Do U have to re-key the cylinder to fit your current key as previous guy indicated? I thought you used your old cylinder with the new switch electrical part so no re key. Thanks

....and moving the tumblers from your old cylinder to a new one isn’t too difficult as long as you keep track which ones go into each slot. This is probably where your problem is; a worn out key cylinder or a worn out key.

Anytime you change keys, you have to make sure that the key's resistance value is the same as the orginal key, if not you have to perform the relearn procedure.
