Default Flange missing?

I bought a used qtp 2 piece timing cover for cheap. I knocked out the old seal that was installed in it and just want to get your opinions on what im looking at. Its seems that this cover either wasnt machined with a back flange in the seal area or its been modified. There are jagged edges in there where the flange would be. Anyone who owns one please chime in or anyone who just knows better than i do. I included an edlebrock two piece in the photo for comparison. Could i install this?

Thanks.

Here are some pictures that the seller had posted. The seal was flush on the front and back so im not sure if the flange would fit (???) 🤷‍♂️

Seems odd, but it should work just fine if you drive the seal in until it's flush to the front surface.

thats what i was thinking because it was fairly tough to remove the old one. I just wish i could see some pictures of other qtp covers without the seal installed but there are almost none on google. My only concern is it walking back and falling into the cover by some kind of impossible murphy's law.

How many WEEKS are you going to screw with these 2 piece covers LOL...

All this time wasted to save you an extra hours worth of work to pull a balancer back off if and when you ever do a cam...

Ha! I hear ya! Here are my 3 reasons for the two piece cover:

1). I just got this car in april and it only has 12,000 miles on it, so part of my winter project is changing all of the belts, fluids, hoses, pulleys etc. I'm adding a vararam and full exhaust as well. With all of these items my grand total is at around 2 grand - which aint bad at all, but to add a cam and heads (i want non ls1 heads) it would be about double. Its just out of my budget this year.

2). I want to enjoy my car for a few seasons before i inevitably burn up my clutch with the extra power. And I will shamelessly admit that it's not if but when.

3) I dont want to remove the balancer and steering again.

I work on the car when i can as i work around 50hrs per week, so in my down time i ask lots of questions here. Throughout my journey ive had some changes of the mind and recently this setback with the cover.

Do you have an opinion on the original question in this thread? The forum seems dead and id like to work on the car this afternoon but havent gotten much feedback.

Update: well, RJacobs you were right. I tried installing that cover today and it could not be aligned with the centering tool and the oil pan bolts didnt line up. Completely fed up, i just put the factory cover back on. The dissasmbly of the steering and balancer wasnt that bad so ill just do it again when i do a cam/heads.

Man, Nothing fits like OEM!

yea pulling the rack out the passenger side isnt a big deal...

Its what, 2 lines and 4 bolts(rack to sub frame and the 2 nuts and break the tie rods loose from the knuckles) then slide her on out the passenger side...

And if you put an ATI or other non OEM type balancer on they are way easier to pull then a factory.
