Default Engine ground?

Is this one of the c5 ground points? It's passenger side at the rear of the motor. The grounding diagrams I have don't show a ground there yet I'm having weird electrical issues and clearly something was connected to this at some point. The front right turn signal gets so hot it melts. I've disassembled and cleaned the four main chassis grounds there in the front but the area circled in red is what concerns me. Was this a ground?

Nope. Just a coil bracket bolt.

Turn signal socket melting is a common problem. I’ve replace mine twice. Sad no one makes a good socket.

Man, I hear you on sockets melting!! I now drive mine with the DRL turned off. They stay a LOT cooler. Eventually, I'm going to go with LEDs and a separate LED flasher unit. OP, not to be a wise guy, but you already know how salty and rusty/corroded things are. I would bet your sockets and bulbs are virtually welded together with rust/corrosion. The sockets are probably more $$ than the bulbs, so if you can get the bulbs out, you may be able to save the sockets by using some 200+Emory cloth. If you do get them functional again, and get new bulbs, coat them with a little dielectric grease on bulbs AND sockets before reassembling them. If you do have to get new sockets, I'd go with LEDs and the separate flasher unit. Good luck.

Go with new sockets, dielectric grease, and LED replacement bulbs and that will fix the overheating issue.
