Default 2000 C5 Key FOB Connection issues

Hey guys!

New to the forum, so obligatory apologies

After purchasing my 2000 Vette, I realized that both key fobs refuse to connect. I read through the owners manual to find the reprogramming steps, which I followed to a 't' but with no success. Basically, no matter how long I hold down Lock & Unlock, the DIC never says FOB found or whatever. I scoured through the interwebs to see that a few others have had this issue. Things I have tried: Trying to connect them with engine on, and off. Replaced batteries on both fobs. Disconnected and reconnected battery ground terminal. Punched the wall of my garage. I know that I can go to the dealership to have them try to reprogram on their side, but I was wondering if anyone else has found a DIY solution, or has any other suggestions. I don't mind taking it to a dealership, but if it can save me a few bucks and hours, I'm all the more into it.

Thanks a bunch!

Believe or not, I read about rubbing a pencil eraser on the contacts inside the fob. I did that and it helped. I also snipped a wire inside my 98 fobs to stop them from locking and unlocking the car constantly while they sat in the kitchen drawer.

Mine sometimes don’t sync for a while. I turn it off and try later. They always end up syncing if I have fresh batteries.

You are the greatest my friend. I'll give it a try when I get back into town tomorrow night. If not, I've got to run to pick up a new AC Control module on Monday, and I'll drop by a dealership and have them take a looksee.
