I read that the instruments on this car are pretty sensitive to voltage. People are reporting using a torque wrench on the battery terminals which sounded crazy to me. Some threads say that the wires going through the door boot can get work hardened and cause the dic issues. Just trying to advise on doing your due diligence before throwing money at it. This thread seems to be getting taken over by the prospects of setting the mileage, albeit a valid concern I had when considering to replace my IPC. In the end I'm glad I did my own troubleshooting. If you do decide to take the IPC out, and inspect the buttons, the button assembly has plastic rivets you'll have to drill out.
My dic buttons did the EXACT same thing. Just fixed it this weekend myself. Instrument cluster and buttons were fine. Previous owner had installed a Sirius xm tuner and stuffed it behind the seat. They had the wiring t-tapped behind the instrument cluster. Unhooked that and tossed it. Dic works fine now. FWIW maybe you're IPC is fine...is there any aftermarket electronics??? also note that if the dic is displaying a message like "door ajar" you have to hit reset first to clear that. Until you hit "reset" the other buttons won't do anything.
Yes, I installed new head unit a few months ago, but no wiring toward the cluster.
How long has the issue with the IPC been going on? Might be worth it to unhook that head unit and see if ur dic buttons come back to you. Now that you've experienced opening the console up the second time around should be easier for you.
Took my 97 C5 to our local Chevy dealer today to see about fixing the DIC. I know that the cluster has to be taken out, sent off and repaired, then put back in. Corvette shop in Pensacola said they do it all the time. I was just trying to save myself a 4 hour round trip. Chevy dealer told me they don't work on anything over 15 years old. Crazy! That normal for dealers?
I took my 2000 C5 into a 'stealership' in Michigan about 2 years ago. Car was 19 years old then. They had a 'Vette tech' work on it. No problem due to age. But I'll never trust a 'Vette tech' again. Whatta cobblejockey......
