Took my 97 C5 to our local Chevy dealer today to see about fixing the DIC. I know that the cluster has to be taken out, sent off and repaired, then put back in. Corvette shop in Pensacola said they do it all the time. I was just trying to save myself a 4 hour round trip. Chevy dealer told me they don't work on anything over 15 years old. Crazy! That normal for dealers?
I guess the question what seems to be the problem with it? Bulbs burnt out, one of the switch's do not work. I have to imagine most every thing else the DIC does comes from the cluster system. Even though the DIC doesn't work it could be the cluster or might be corrected reseating the connectors on both ends.

None of the DIC buttons work. Everything else is good.
From what I have read, the situation you have would require replacement of the cluster. From my understanding there are no component level repairs for the C5 cluster.

Yes, I know whats wrong and what it needs to fix it, I was just surprised a Chevy dealership would not work on it.
pulling the dash is a 30 minute project... maybe 45 if you have never done it before. It takes 3 tools...eh, maybe its 4... (t15 torx, 7mm, 10mm, flat blade screw driver).
The cluster comes out with two 7mm screws on the bottom of the cluster.

I would never pay somebody to pull a C5 dash...
Pulling the cluster is not the only thing. You have to send it off to be repaired then be able to re-program it when you get it back.
Pulling the cluster isn't that hard, I've had mine out a few times. I see you are in Panama City, I was stationed there at Tyndall AFB for about 6 months. Beautiful area.
You can either swap your old card containg the milage chip in your "old"cluster into the "new"used you buy off ebay or
move (desolder/solder) the milage chip from your old cluster into the same card in the used cluster bought to get correct milage on your car. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...enter-dic.html
you cannot repair the dic , the chip is not available. you need to find a cluster and a speedometer repair shop to have the milage changed. you cannot change the milage with a tech 2
do your DIC buttons feel like they have any spring to them or do they feel flat when you push them.? they may be stuck so check them before you change the cluster

Buttons seem to be fine. They all spring back to normal. I've talked to a Corvette shop in Pensacola, all they do is work on Corvettes. He said he always has vettes in his shop with this issue. He sends the cluster to (I think he said GM) then programs it when it gets back. Then good to go. I believe that's what I'm going to do. Thanks for all the advice.
i apologise if I was wrong but the reason I said this was imagining the dealer setting the mileage on a brand new cluster by hooking up to a computer/Tech 2, whatever.
On most cars mileage can be accessed and changed through the OBD port for this reason.
My dic buttons did the EXACT same thing. Just fixed it this weekend myself. Instrument cluster and buttons were fine. Previous owner had installed a Sirius xm tuner and stuffed it behind the seat. They had the wiring t-tapped behind the instrument cluster. Unhooked that and tossed it. Dic works fine now. FWIW maybe you're IPC is fine...is there any aftermarket electronics??? also note that if the dic is displaying a message like "door ajar" you have to hit reset first to clear that. Until you hit "reset" the other buttons won't do anything.
