The car: 2004 Base Coupe 4A
The deal: Just installed new Dewitts radiator
The problem: Trans cooler lines don’t match up to radiator fittings.
pics: radiator fittings in stock radiator as removed. End view of cooler line fitting.
2004 is supposed to be quick disconnect style lines. These don’t look like what I would call quick disconnect. Car is unmolested. Even the hoses I removed were date of mfg for car.
What can you tell me? Old radiator fitting. Vehicle Tran cooler line fitting Old radiator fitting

I believe that you need what's called an inverted flare to 37° adapter fitting. I got mine at Jegs. Then you can run the 37° fittings (what's commonly known in automotive speak as "AN fittings"). I also have a DeWitts and ran into the same problem. I'm certain Summit also sells them. If you can find a local speed shop, they might have them, but I think you'll find most don't stock this fitting, and you'll have to order it anyway. You simply screw the inverted flare to AN adapter fitting onto the radiator. From there, I ran a swivel 90° elbow fitting. Hope this helps.......
Okay fellow CF members, I still need help with this. Long story short: transmission lines won’t match up to radiator fittings. I’ve been told that my transmission lines are the “old style” which were changed to “quick disconnect” in the 2001 model year. I confirmed with Dewitts that the radiator I bought is correct for my 2004 model. It is beyond my imagination that GM still used the “old style” lines when my ‘04 was built. Before you suggest it, the parts are original to the vehicle. I gave up and took it to my local Chevy dealer to hook up the lines and fill with coolant. That was on Friday and today they said they couldn’t fix it. 😠
Now, I have purchased Dewitts’ adapter to run old style lines with the quick disconnect fittings on the radiator- see picture.
Can someone show me a picture or diagram of how these quick disconnect fitting assemble?
Well it looks like to me that those fittings screw on the transmission hose/line side. See if they fit. If they do, you will need to buy the quick disconnect fittings with wire ring keeper and screw those onto the radiator side... then push hose side right into it.
here’s a similar fitting drawing...

The port in the radiator is a metric female. M18 x 1.5. The fitting you bought from DeWitts will not help with that port. Can you send another photo of the image below from the side view? I can't tell what is on the end of that steel line.
I will take another picture (side view) when I get home this evening, Tom. In the meantime maybe this picture of the connection on the old (OEM) radiator will help.

Not really. That is the metric female port, which should be identical to the newer DeWitt radiator. But I need to see what you are trying to put in there.
I think what you did is turn the fitting out of the radiator and it is now just attached to the end of the tube. The normal way of servicing this is to remove the C clip and pull the tube out. The fitting remains in the radiator.
This is what the ADAPTER fitting was designed for. If someone bought the wrong radiator, IE metric port, and the tube was the early 97-2000 flare type, this fitting would make it work.
