Oil Catch Can?
Hi All, I have had my C5 Z06 about 7 years. I bought her from a specialty shop that only sells used Vettes. I started reading threads on oil catch cans and was going to install one on my Z. However, I think there may already be a can on it. Can anyone confirm for me that the blue part in my photos is a catch can? If so, I can’t find a brand name on it. I do not know how to empty it. So, if I can determine the brand I can google the directions. Also, if this is a catch can, it hasn’t been emptied in 7 years. Has this possibly affected my engine? I have never had any engine problems other than a routine clutch replacement. Does anyone have any information? She runs great. Thanks!
Hi Lespaul, thanks for the quick response. The third hose looks like it runs from the top of the can to the bottom (see new photo). Maybe it is a drain/overflow hose?
Got my stumped on the brand. Nevertheless, after 7 years, I would imagine it to be pretty full. I would completely remove the catch can and take it apart to drain and clean it out. You’re probably better off cleaning it out then trying to figure out where to drain it from.
Also, looks like the two hoses are clamped on by zip ties, I would get some decent clamps on it.
Extremely simple. I always take mine apart from the top to clean the filter and inspect it. Just label the hoses connected to it so you don’t get it mixed up. No moving parts so gaskets should be good. I’ve never seen replaces gaskets on one.
diagram how a catch can works. Looks similar to yours.
