I have done dozens of them and have NEVER removed an intake manifold. An oil pressure sensor socket with a universal joint added to it with an extension will take it right out. Put it back in with a strip of paper wedged to hold the sensor inside the socket and screw it back in and tighten. 5 minutes done.

My sensor just failed today at 103,000 miles. Using the socket and swivel, do you need to disconnect/move anything like the pcv hose? I'm ok cutting a hole but I'd like to try the socket/swivel technique first.
I do not recall moving any hoses but even if you do there is no problem doing it.
Mine is a 99. And it's the pcv hose in the way. Even unplugged from the driver side grommet, it really restricts the socket. And it's still difficult to push back or up to leave room for the socket. I did the sender on a c4, have removed upper intakes on various vehicles to change plugs. With the car being 21 years old, I'm not afraid of the intake, I'm afraid of breaking something difficult to replace or expensive. I'll take a look at the pcv hose mount on the passenger side. Maybe I can get it to move back towards the firewall. If so, it looks to be an easy job. Not much harder than the c4.

I just did mine on my 98. I would just be careful with the fuel injector connectors, and I recommend that you pull the master cylinder vacuum hose out with the manifold, and make sure you reconnect the small HVAC vacuum line when reinstalling. I didn't do the following, and I regret it. It helps if you lengthen the rubber vacuum hose on the manifold fitting. It makes reconnecting the HVAC line much easier.
