Hey there all, I've tried searching for another post with this issue, but nothing really came up.
My car is a 2003 coupe with 103k miles. My headlights are stock as far as I know. The problem isnt consistent either, sometimes it's worse than others, sometimes there's no issue at all.
It seems that randomly whenever I start my car after sitting for a while and turn my headlights on, sometimes they will go out. The headlights stay up, and it normally only lasts a few seconds and they turn back on.
I've tried jiggling the headlight switch but that didnt effect it. I checked my battery cables, and also put ring terminals in place of the ground pack on the front frame rails. Neither of these helped. The battery was new when I bought the car less than a year ago
On a side note, I didnt notice this issue until after I installed my longtube headers.
So last night leaving work the headlights did the same thing again. This time however, they went out and after a couple seconds I flashed the high beams, which worked, and immediately the low beams came back on.
After some more research, it seems the stalk is a pretty common wear item on these cars, maybe mine is on it's way out
Last night I flipped the high beams on, than turned the headlights on. Same thing, they turned on, after a second there was about 5 seconds they were off and than came back on
Just another follow up. Last night I decided to take my multifunction switch apart to try and rebuild it. Well, with the switch apart, I can utilize the headlights, even when the switch is screwed together it works. Whenever I actually install it, nothing.
I switched my twilight sentinel on and the headlights worked flawlessly, without the usual flicker.
I ordered a new switch today, I should get it tomorrow. I'll follow up if this fixes my original problem
Just as an FYI, the new headlight switch resolved my issue. I'd bought one from Autozone and was surprised to see "GM" and the part itself. I was expecting the typical duralast part lol
