Does anyone know how much an E-brake costs (mine snapped the other week and needs replaced) and how long it takes to replace at a chevy dealership or repair shop?
Stevel2 - you know, I'm not really sure. My shop tells me its the cable that snapped. I have no ebrake at all. Not even the slightest friction of grab. They said the cable will need replaced and it would prob run a few hundred dollars. I didn't get an exact quote because they were slammed. This is a family owned business where the original owner graduated high school with my grandfather. He also used to bring them donuts every Monday and Friday mornings and make parts from scratch for antiques since he was a retired master machinest so I trust them with my cars not to BS me.
Does it ratchet when you pull it up, do you have to push the button on the end to put it down?
My ratchet claw broke and I had to replace the handle. The new handle which included a piece of cable about 3 ft long was ~ $250.00. It took me about an hour to replace. If it's a cable break, it depends on where it's broken. The cable attached to the handle appears to connect to another cable, I didn't use it so I'm guessing it's the bottom of a "Y", with the top "V" portion of the "Y" connecting to the rear wheel emergency breaks. If it's the cable attached to the handle, you'll need the whole handle assembly, ~$250.00.
I have no idea how hard or how much the "Y" portion of the cable assembly will be.
It shouldn't take more than a few hours, regardless. It could simply be that something came loose. The main cable splits in two under the car, then attaches at each rear wheel. Once they confirm the cable is/is not working at the rear wheels, they just need to re-attach or replace the damaged parts.
I would guess something just popped loose, but if not, don't expect them to have the parts on hand.
