Hey guys, i'm trying to buy my first vet now that I have rid myself of my last import. I want a 99/00 blk/blk frc (hardtop)! I am new to the vet world so I am not sure what this "mongoose" package comes with. It is being sold by a dealer and you know how they are if a car has something done to it. They say it has around 400hp which I could care less about because I have my own plans. But anyway I would be very thankfull if you guys would help explain what this includes. It is a 2000 frc with 40007 miles and they want 28500 for the car. Thank you!!! I cant wait to own a real car!!

Re: Mongoose??? (NoMohonda)
Not sure if it is the same thing, but Jake Delaney @ Corvette Concepts sells a bolt-on package called the 'Delco-Mongoose 400SS". It is a "ram-air" system with a ported throttle body, K&N fileter, 180 thermo, throttle body bypass (useless), timing tricker and some stickers. I assume it is supposed to be 400 at the fly (not rear). www.corvetteconcepts.com
I have no opinion or knowledge on the dyno verified hp increase.

Re: Mongoose??? (OCMike)
Decent price if car is clean. Tell them you really want a stock car to see if it gets more off. Remember you can walk out the door and return in 5 minutes but they don't know if your coming back say you have to look at one more some where else.
The true originators of ther Moongoose package is a Pro Auto Tech in Ft. Meyers Fl. I dealt with them in 1998 and 1999 and they were great to do business with. I'm not sure if they are still around but their web site address was proautotech.com.
I agree with the previous post, I talked with the people at Pro Auto Tech a couple of years ago they even sent me a great vhs tape with a good lecture on the basics of making power from the LS1.
I almost bought that car. :) I decided to go for a stock Pewter FRC instead. As said above, the horsepower is estimated flywheel. The car seems in great shape. It was purchased new from the same dealership, and has a ton of options. If you like the car, make an offer.
There is no way that car has 400 flywheel horsepower. The price sounds fair for the car. Check out Kelly Blue Books site. Don't pay more because of this BS claim of 400 flywheel horsepower. 400 flywheel would equal 340 at the rear wheels. I would bet with those bolt ons it is somewhere at about 325 0r 330. 330 equals about 388 at the crank if you figure a 15% driveline loss. Maybe if the car has decent headers it will rub up against that 340 rear wheel number. Tell them you want the car dynoed to see if their claim is good. I beleive that package came up with the 400 number by added the claimed gains of all the bolt ons to factory horsepower. The only true measure is on a dyno. When you put all those items together it doesn't work like that, not to mention some of the claims are a little bit embellished.
The above are my opinions, take them for what they are worth. Good luck with your purchase and remember, if a salseman said it it's a lie!

I believe Pro-Auto Tech is no longer in operation. Ron B who used to own PAT is pretty knowledgable and I'm sure the 400 at the flywheel is true. Most of my mods were from PAT so I have some experiences with them....Good luck.
$28.5g is fair, not great. I think I've heard about the car, it as at a Supporting dealer. The Mongoose 400 from what I understand is the basic bolt ons, fresh air, catback etc. I do not consider the Mongoose a potential collector car like a LPE or DRM modded car. Therefore I would pay very little of a premium for the Mongoose name on the side.
I agree concerning the collectability issue. IThe Moongoose package was a series of bolt on's until you got above the 400 hp level. PAT then offered heads, cam, headers, etc. all the way (at that time) up to 490 hp. The only branding for the Moongosse package was a series of decals that the owner could apply. One interesting item was a 6 tip (that's right 6!) exhaust system. In their hey day Ron and Tiffeny were offering and building some pretty potent cars! Too bad they are no longer in the business. My 1999 Coupe was at 347 RW HP with the various PAT mods.
