Help removing exhaust
Thanks a lot,
Justin  :D :D :D
I had a hard time wiggling out the stock exhaust. I had the car at the very end of my lift, and I even jacked the suspension but couldn't get the last inch of room I needed to get the stock pipe/muffler out. I took off the rear section of the undercar heat shields (one nut and one bolt in a j-clip) and the exhaust slid out immediately.
Get or borrow a lift. I did mine on a shorty Kwik-lift and a creeper. Job took less than 90 minutes (I chased all the threads to get good torque readings.
Also the biggie trick is to unbolt the rear sway bar (one nut and one bolt on each side) and swing it down.
Kudos to Chaz Cone for the tips that helped me and the torque specs when bolting everything back together.
I have a six speed too so removal of the old system (I'll assume your going from the flanges back) was a piece of cake because there was plenty of air space under the car to work the "over the axle" pipes right on out. Didn't have to undo the anti-sway bar or anything else.
Working the new pieces into place was no problem either. It probably took us longer to align the tips with fine tune adjustments that it did for everything else. But I'm extremely **** so they had to be perfect so it really helps to have a lift where you can adjust, lower, check it out and redo if necessary and this part really helps to have two people. One making the adjustment and one eye-balling the results 'till it's right. You could do all this by yourself but it would take a lot longer to align everything.
It's really pretty easy overall.
Go for it!
Bill :) :)
1. You can beg, borrow or steal a lift to use.
2. Cut the exhaust. This depends on if you want to reuse it later if you sell the car or want to try and sell the exhaust.
3. Take it to a shop and have it done.
Please do not try and jack the car yourself to get it high enough. You have to get the rear crossmember at least 30" off of the ground.
Be careful!
