Hi folks, hoping for some direction on what to look at next.
01 C5. car will not start. The battery had been getting a wee bit old and tired, so when I got "low voltage' on the DIC, and the car wouldnt start, I figured the battery was toast.
Tonight I put a brand new battery in it, and when I tried to start the car, I got the 'low voltage" message right away when I turned the key. The car would still not start. will turn over, but just cranks and cranks, but no start al all.
I tried a few times, and went and checked all the fuses (all are good) and double checked that the connections to the battery were tight. everything good.
tried again and this time theres nothing on the DIC when I turn the key, and just get a 'clunk' when I try to start. Battery is still confirmed good.
Is this a “cranking no start” or a “no crank no start” ????...you said it will crank and crank and later you said you heard a “clunk” when trying to start it...2 different issues here.
The repeated attempts to start your car, have probably already drained the battery, the clunk you heard is probably the starter engaging but not having enough power to turn the engine over. You should charge the battery and try again, make sure you hear the fuel pump prime before turning the key to the start position. All cars need fuel, spark, and a working timing system to fire up.
