Hello all,
Just bought a C5 to keep my C4 company in the garage and everything is great, except the air conditioner selector won't stay on. It will light up when pushed, but shuts off in about 5 seconds. Heater works fine - recharge maybe? Haven't had a chance to take it to a shop to get it checked out yet. Thanks for any insight....
First thing to do is check the charge, if its low there could be a leak, if the gauges after charging show the same pressure on both the high and low sides the compressor is gone.
Most A/C shops do a charge and system check for very reasonable rates. That said I’d bet tacos your system is low, if not empty, and your compressor is the leak.
A $40 gage set or $25 fill can with a gage on the top can tell a lot. With the engine off, low side pressure should be about the same as ambient temperature. 40 or 50 psi may turn on, but then system pressure will drop below the limit switch and turn it back off. On my ‘99 I could have A/C for up to 30 minutes!
Do you want some things that might be the cause for this before taking it to a mechanic ??
Amazing, eh Rob? I know you figured out what was wrong with mine. Actually, I guess I figured it out after all your help, and you had eliminated everything it could've been, EXCEPT my tune!! Yes, my tuner set my car up so when the car comes to a stop, the A/C kicks off!! Probably due to the more radical cam. But you steered me in the right direction. Grateful always. Guys, Rob knows the C5 A/C system probably as well as anyone in the country......

Thanks Mike but the dealer techs have it all over me !!...I’m just a DIY’er !!
Thanks for the previous responses. I took her to the shop and got the A/C recharged and everything was working great on the way home. Next day, the blower motor won't engage (which it was doing prior to the freon charge). I have tried pulling the 27 fuse, setting the temp controls to neutral, 73*, waited 60 seconds and did not help. It will not blow warm or cold air now. It is throwing code B0446, but the issues that I have researched on the forum relate to temperature differences coming from different vents. This problem seems unrelated to the other effects.
