I have a problem with mice getting into my C5’s HVAC squirrel cage. I would think if you had the recycle door closed when the car is turned off it would remain closed. I actual don’t think that is how it works. I believe once the vacuum system stops the door opens. Any thoughts on how to overcome this problem?

The C5 has no HVAC filter which would otherwise be a barrier to mice getting into the HVAC system. Once in there, they can go into ducts and blower. I had mice nests in the blower twice in 2009, about three months apart.
NO mice since then. For twelve years.

I removed the wipers and cowl, then screened every possible mouse entry point. There are a lot of entry points. Here is a picture on the driver side, from outside the cowl:
