Electrical help, no DIC and reduced power/check engine light
I’ll start off saying I’ve read through some of the electrical posts already and not had any luck. I’ve tried taking the STAR connectors apart to see if there is a short, doesn’t seem to do anything different. Checked fuses in pass footwell for the BCM, all good there.
Backstory, 2002 Z06, car was sitting outside without being driven for 10 years before I purchased it. Cowl was clogged up, water in interior footwells. Went through and cleaned all the grounds, cleaned checked fuse box and BCM connections. The pass footwell box has had water on/in it as the small threaded areas are rusty. Some pins for the fuses were corroded, but I cleaned them and replaced fuses for all spots on the box.
Car started up, no codes, drove great for approximately 3-400 miles. Random restart after driving 40 miles or so, DIC doesn’t show anything (no Corvette or text at key on), and CEL is on. I turn off, restart but it continues, I try to drive the car around the parking lot and every 30-40 sec it dings 3 times at me, reduced power/torque mode as won’t rev above 1800 rpm, and up to that it has very limited torque output. Took out the 4 wire STAR connector, no change, did the same with the larger, no change. Put them back together and unplugged the battery to force a restart, no change. Tried my OBD scanner (can’t check codes on the DIC due to it not showing anything), and it’s saying it has no coms.
Any ideas on where to look? Restart with my grounds again? Fuse box? Hate to tear everything apart again on the interior if I don’t need to.
Sounds like a serial data issue...your BCM may be toast !!...try removing the 3 BCM connectors and now see if you can now communicate with your scan tool.
This just happened to mine. My DIC buttons quit working about 6 months ago. Still drivable so was not in a hurry to get it fixed. I did all the checking grounds and other stuff with no luck. The car quit on me about a month ago. Had it towed to the shop. The shop said the next day it started with no problems then later no start then stared again etc... The not starting ended up being the crank sensor. The DIC buttons not working ended up being the Instrument Cluster had to be re-built. All good now. Don't know if this helps but thought I would throw it out there. Good luck.
