Default C5 seat swap

Looking to swap c5 base seats with c5 sport seats. My base seats are power on drivers side and manual on passenger side. The sport seats I want are power on both sides. Can I put the sport seats on my brackets/bases without any problems?

You will need to find power on the passenger side to plug in your new sport seat, since your car doesn't have power there from the factory.

Where are you located and do you have the Sport seats yet?

Thanks for the info. I’m not worried about power on the passenger side unless the plug is right there. I was just hoping to mount the seats on my brackets. No I don’t have the seats, the guy just sold them earlier today and I didn’t want to buy them until I was sure. I’m located in central Florida.

FWIW you can easily convert the base seat to a Sport seat.

In fact, in my experience C5 seats are effectively Legos. Asl long as you've got the right modules, motors, assemblies and switches you can turn any seat into any seat assuming the years match up. For example, my driver seat is from a Z06 converted to a Sport seat with lumbar.

If your seat base and seat frame are in halfway decent shape, decide what you want to make of your seats, buy the correct wiring, modules switches and foams and have fun!

So am I to understand that going with anything other that the same base seats, I need to get wiring, modules etc. even if I put sport seats on my base brackets things like the lumbar support and recline switches won’t work or even connect to my wiring harness?

My apologies for not being super clear on my last post. I was simply explaining how you can play Legos with the seats.

What makes a Sport seat a Sport seat for the most part is the different seat foam and seat covers and then the lumbar system. At it's simplest, if you removed your seat covers and seat foam, the backs of your seat are no different than a Sport or a Z06 seat. The seat backs changed between 1998 and 1999 (tho I've seen some people say the 99 were similar to the 98), but that doesn't imapct converting base to Sport. The seat bases differ based upon options. There are manual, power w/o memory and power w/memory.

If your goal is to simply get seats that look like the Sport seats, simply buy Sport seat covers and foam and recover your seats. They will look and perform identical to the real Sport seats with the exception of the lumbar system. If you wanted to install the lumbar system, simply purchase a seat harness for the matching seat (with or without memory), get a lumbar equipped seat switch and the lumbar system and connect it all up. The lumbar system changed between 1998 and 1999 so the harness is slightly different.

What is your actual end goal? That and the year of your car will determine what you can do. Ultimately there is no reason to purchase a new seat unless your seat frames are in bad shape (broken wings, etc). As I noted before I converted a Z06 driver seat, which was a power seat with memory, without lumbar to a Sport seat with memory, with lumbar.

Please feel free to shoot me a message when you get started. I started with 5 seats to make the pair that are in my car, and worked with a pair of 1997 seats, a pair of 2004 seats and a single Z06 seat, so I've gotten a decent handle on how things work with them.

After a little research, and really only going to sport seats is to install a 5 point harness set up and run them through the opening in the seat backs. Do they use the same frame and all I have to do is get the foam and covers without lumbar and switch them out?

yep! The frames underneath are the same. You can take the seat tracks from your non-power passenger and put them on your new seats as well and they will work.
