Default FLP install completed, some ? and comments.

Got the project finished tonight! Also replaced the stock wires with MSD Super Conductor. On the driver's side, the rearmost wire's boot is touching the header. Don't know if it'll melt eventually but after a 20 minute test drive it still looks OK. The exhaust tips that were even before now are off slightly. My impressions are as follows:

SOUND: significantly louder (I run ORPs), at idle it's only a little bit louder, but step on it, especially above 3000 RPM, and it becomes apparent that this ain't no stocker. WOT is insane! Guess I can't fool the cars around me anymore with my license plate. :D At times I hear a kind of "raspy" sound. Can that be an exhaust leak? How do I detect a leak in the system?

PERFORMANCE: Without a doubt there is more power/torque there, how much? Dont' know til I get the car on the dyno soon. It pulls REALLY hard above 3000 RPM all the way to redline. :)

COMMENTS: Right after I started the car, I noticed a burnt smell and a little bit of smoke! The smoke disappeared after a few minutes. I think/hope the smoke/smell was from the dielectric grease that I put in the wires. After the drive, I checked the engine bay for any evidence of anything getting burned. Nothing. The passenger's side seems to give off a lot more heat than the driver's side. I've heard that other members who run ORPs have a gasoline smell. I didn't smell anything with windows down or when I pull into the garage.

Overall this was a great experience, and I got to know the car a lot better, and wouldn't mind doing it again. Yeah really! :D Now I'll just need to wash it and put on the KEWL exhaust plate. And also find a muffler shop to hoist the car up and re-align the tips and tighten everything down some more.

 You'll love the FLPs. I'm not sure if I want to do it again though :D Well maybe it wouldn't be so bad now that I've done it once and know how to get them in. ENJOY

Well, this was my 1st major project so I took it slow and didn't have enough tools, that's why it took a long time. Now that I've done it, I can say that with 2 persons, and especially a lift, it'll take less than a day. Some have said they did it in 5 hours!

...and did you notice how much weight you shed? The stock stuff is heavy.

At least you can say YOU DID THE INSTALL:D
Yep, you do learn about your car.
I do my own stuff to save money for more mods, its one of my hobbies, and to update the service manual when I find working on the car is a little different from the words;)

The smoke is just all the hand prints & stuff that got on the pipes, oil etc. from installing header bolts.
Then idle on ours is a bit deeper, but WOT.... :reddevil
Check the header to head bolts after driving it about 8 hours, then again in a few days of driving then a week and they are set!
I then check them monthly, vibration is the only issue now if at all!
Enjoy :smash:
