Default Water pump installation tip

Replaced water pump gaskets on my '03 Z06 and found removing the throttle body made it much easier to get pump into position without gaskets/bolts dropping. On my car, top of water pump would contract throttle body if I tried to put the pump on without angling it. Angling it causes bolts and/or gaskets to shift. Also, with t body off, I could actually see the driver's side gasket and see that it was in place. I did put a few dabs of sealant on gaskets to help prevent them from moving. I had the water pump off in about 30 minutes and wondered why people say it takes 3 hours to do the job. Removing the throttle body takes about two minutes and saved me a lot of time/frustration.

What brand water pump did you go with? And from where? I have to replace the water pump on my 97 C5 because water pump needs to be removed in order to get to the a/c compressor that is leaking i'm going to replace soon. I plan on replacing the water pump from AMAZON AC DELCO Professional water pump cost $110.

Thanks for the tip to remove throttle body for easier access.

I did not replace the pump itself, I replaced the gaskets only. Mine were brittle and seeping a little bit. That is a very good price on the pump you found.

Go with the ACDELCO pump. Had issues with the auto parts store brands, they just did not last.

I went with a Gates replacement WP. Can’t fault it. Seems a quality item.

Re above, the AC compressor is nowhere near the water pump. Is removing the water pump something to do with getting the AC compressor physically out..?

For clearance to move the AC compressor out the water pump needs to also come out. The thermostat neck and heater hose fittings are in the way of lifting the AC compressor.

Just removing the thermostat housing and top hose isn’t enough?

Unfortunately not the heater hose fittings are in the way also.
