Default c6 seatbelt.. sigh

I have C6 seatbets in my C5, side for side, installed correctly.. they worked fine for awhile, now i cannot get the
driver side to unwind to fasten, took it off and pulled and used every angle back and forth and side to side,
obviously i m missing something. Is there a way to get it to unwind ? I don t care if it winds up again. will just leave it out.

Any movement of the retractor will lock it up. If you have it out of the car, clamp the mounting ear in a vise to hold it still. the retractor needs to be within 15 degrees of vertical.

One of the problems with C5 retractors in a C5 is that the “rectractor full, now free to unwind”, is at the hairy edge dimensionally for proper operation. I ended up sending mine off to a seal belt rebuilding outfit to have them replace the webbing and make the webbing 20 inches longer. I then used a racing harness end piece to mount the end at the sill.

I m lost on how to make this work correctly, still struggling.. i did get the belt out, took it off the wall and removed the cover and lifted the clip up and wheeled it all out.
i have it adjusted where i need it, and is held in place from retracting by a clamp. it won t unwind anymore sot is ok that way. I have put a washer under the retractor to change the angle, like some have said. and another under the top pulley.. all to no avail. been on this for a month now.. driveing me around the bend.

While I can't confirm the C6 belts, the C5 belts have a little silver "keg" barrel that has to be balanced in precisely the right orientation in order to release the belt.

Here's a pic of what I'm talking about when I was troubleshooting my C5 belts.

If your belts are locked and won't extend, any imbalance to the keg will cause the yellow arm to shift up, block & lock up the white cog. The silver "keg" normally will lay perfectly flush which relaxes the yellow arm which allows the white cog to spin which let's the seat belt retract in and out.

Also, if your seat belt "cockspring" has come off, you will also have issues with the belt being able to operate correctly.

I can go I to further details if you need but you may just need to dissect the belts for yourself to ensure that the cockspring hasn't become disconnected from the belt's drivetrain.

these are same as c6. i saw the yellow arm in there and had to lift it, pull the belt out and clamp it.. there must be a happy medium with keg. i was sure i had it centered and relaxed. I m thinking it is just tedious and trial and error work.
thanks for the input.

I think the C6 belts bolt to the C6 seat and not the body of the car like the C5?

Is your seat belt mounting point (where you have your belts mounted to)the same as where they mount in a C6?

I have heard of guys mounting C6 belts to a C5 seat but don't know if the C5 mounting location is the same exact orientation to keep the C6 belt "keg" in a neutral position to stop them from locking up.

Yes, they mount in the same position. Only difference is they mount side for side. Right side c6 mounts on left side in a c5
. They worked perfect initially and the passenger side still does. Just an issue with driver side.
