I am doing following Mods to my 97 C5 Automatic w/94k miles : BTR stage 2 cam kit, LS intake manifold, 243cylinder heads, melling high volume oil pump, speed engineering( se on back order till 6/18) or TSP long tube headers, Summmit racing harmonic balancer, OEM timing chain & damper, rocker trunnion upgrade.

Is LS7 good upgrade? Will this work with my btr stage 2 cam 227/238 .620"/.605" ???
Is there failure to LS7 anyone know I should stay away from?
I spoke to my long time high school acquaintance he has a c6 vette told me lifter failed on his c6.

what trunion upgrade would you recommend? i'm looking into straub technologies or Comp Cams trunion kit 13702kit from summit.

what else should I replace while i'm in there?

ANYONE SELLING HEADERS? LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU GOT.

"ls7" lifters are basically the standard LS lifter thats out now. Nothing fancy about them, just regarded as the "latest" revision to the LS lifter family. They arent great, but arent terrible. Stepping up to something like a Johnson lifter is at least double what a set of GM lifters cost. DEFINITELY do some kind of lifters when you do your cam especially at 94k miles.

CHE trunnion kit or another brass bushing kit. Comp trunion kit is no better than what you have. Get the needle bearings out. Im putting a CHE kit in my 02 Z while I am doing the valve springs.

From what I understand, Johnson lifters, CHE trunion, the best upgrades

Yeah make sure the cam kit includes upgraded springs, retainers, pushrods. BTR can setup you up nice

Mine is an 02 so both holes were tapped for the dampner you have to tap one of the holes IIRC

ALWAYS install new gears with a new chain, and/or ALWAYS install a new chain with new gears!!
NEVER install old gears with a new chain, and/or NEVER install an old chain with new gears.
On ANYTHING!!!! They wear TOGETHER. Install ALL 3 as a new set, if replacing any one of them. I also believe in never mixing up rocker arms, and then re-installing them on the wrong, worn valvestems. They wear uniquely to each valvestem, and should be replaced on that same stem, and pushrod, that they were removed from. This isn't really as necessary with roller rockers.......

I"m using the 243 heads off 02 i purchased and the rockers were already taken off from the heads when I received the heads so I don't know which rocker goes to whichocatipn on the heads. The heads got 35k miles. I am going to use this rocker on the heads. Is it ok to reuse the rockers since I don't know which rocker came off from the heads a d it's not going to be on the same spot it was on before? Will have new pushrods and new valve springs came with btr stage 2 cam kit. I'm not going to upgrade the trunion on the rockers, just going to use rockers came w/243 heads what I'm thinlg.

so if I go with the dampner you used from the link, I have to tap one bolt hole out of the two holes? Sorry for so many questions, I'm new to this and learing process.

Just the stock oil pump is suffice with my build vs using high volume oil pump?
Oem oil pump is half the price of melling high volume oil pump.

I’m still running the original oil pump, sbe ls6, makes 500+ n/a, 600+ on spray, turns 7800 rpms and has hundreds of 1/8 mile passes, no need for aftermarket pump and if you do go aftermarket then don’t do high volume cause you risk sucking the pan dry

You will be fine.

In an LS7 build I did I sent my rockers out to CHE to have them install their trunnion kit(at the time thats the only way you could do it). No clue which ones went where when I re-assembled the heads.

Im CURRENTLY(my car is torn apart) doing CHE trunnions on my 02 Z06... I did not keep track of which rocker was on which valve... I expect zero issues. I didnt see anything out of the ordinary when I took everything apart.

NOTHING to apologize for. None of us could even walk when we were born!! None of us knew how to talk to women, either. Well, never mind the last one, some things NEVER change!!! Anyway, go ahead and use the rockers you have. Just look them over good, and make sure none have excessive wear on the tip. Like if there's an obvious wear mark that you can catch with your fingernail. Do your best to ensure all the needle bearings are in there. I don't know how many there are supposed to be, but you can "pinch" the fulcrum/trunnion between your thumb and forefinger, and move it around, up and down, like the cam/pushrod does. If any have too much play, and feel loose, or bind, something is wrong. Do you know the history of the rockers?

You may have to tap one of the holes. If your not comfortable doing that just return the dampner to BTR.
I also used the Straub bushing kit, I hear CHE also has a good kit I would not use the Comp kit with the bearings in them. I have set of those NIB collecting dust for a good reason. I also went with the Johnson tie-bar lifters

I used the straub trunnion kit and morel 6504 lifters and had great results - I would use those parts again, aside from using a set of tie-bar lifters if I were building a car to put on a road course more often than once or twice a year.

straub is better than comp but those brass bushings are a wear item, they can be replaced but a full set is a fraction of what the kit cost... I had my rockers off awhile back and they had more play than I liked and after removing the trunnions the wear was evident on the bushings... the trunnions were fine though unlike my old comps that got trashed but I decided to go with che on reinstall and see how those work out

what mileage and usage did ya see with the bushings? Trying to gauge when to pull them off to inspect.
