I own a 98 Vert, out of warranty, and I've got major engine problems. The engine has a severe knock and I'm trying to get it repaired without going to the dealer. I've pulled the valve covers, rocker arms and push rods and the problem is not there. So it's most likely an internal bearing somewhere which requires an engine pull and disassembly. I was just wondering if anyone knew any mechanics in the Southeas Fla Area, ( I live in Boca Raton Fla), that would be interested in doing this kind of work on the side, so I could save some cash.
Well I guess I'm going to have a friend who is a mechanic pull the engine. Anyone out have any step by step instructions on pulling disassembling and rebuilding an Ls1?
Get a Helms Manual for the C5 and it'll give you all the info you need. Is your buddy gonna do the labour for free? If not, just buy Tuan Le's short block, pull your motor out and transfer the heads, intake and accessories over and drop the motor in, voila, done ;), Beats tearing your motor down, looking for the problem, ordering new replacement parts, installing them, etc.

I am selling my complete LS1 cartek stage II heads cam engine (good for mid 11 second time slips on my A4) which only has 32K miles on it coming out of my 98 C5 in two weeks as MTI in Houston is putting in my new 427.
See the parts for sale section for more info as i am lettig this engine go for cheap-$3,000.00 plus shipping from MTI in Houston. It suppossedly is sold but the guy has failed to send in the deposit so far so the first deposit that arrives for $1,000.00 will be getting a killer deal. See my sig below for times and dyno numbers with this engine which NEVER saw and N20 or any other forced induction. 918 springs our 5K mile old and heads/cam and C5R timing chain have about 10.5K miles on them.
