Default Cai??

Ok guys, I'm not looking to start a "which is better" debate... lol... what I would like to know is what CAI YOU are using and why YOU chose that particular one? Just looking for individual opinions on real world use, pros and cons... before I drop the $$$ on one for myself.
Thanks!!

I have a blackwing on my car because that's what was on it when I bought it from the PO. It's fine. All the few big name ones are fine so there's no point in overcomplicating it. It's not like buying an upgraded cam or heads.

I "upgraded" to a Z06 air inlet, for my base C-5. It's a street car, how many times am I actually at WOT, to notice a difference of potentially 4-5 HP?

You are basically talking about and air cleaner, there are two types: engine bay heated air and outside ambient air. To clean the air, the blackwing is one of the best at filtering the air, oil based are good and then become clogged over time and are bad and also run the problems of over oiling when cleaning. Paper/dry filters are the current preferred method. The air enters the engine thru the MAF which measures the speed and temperature of the incoming air and sends the info to the PCM which controls the engine management (over simplification). That said there is nothing wrong with the stock one, the Z06 had an additional opening to get more air into the engine above 6200 rpm, so unless you have an aftermarket cam will add nothing to the engine. Everyone has a favorite and it is usually the one they bought. HTH

1 3/4 plastic barbed elbow on each side of the stock air box with 1 3/4 duct running to each side of front end fog light area. no engine bay air, just fresh air from front lower. still looks stock with factory air cleaner system. be very very tasteful on how you drill the 97 box for the elbows.

I've really been looking at this system from Halltech. It does away with the blow-through MAF and uses the newer "chip" or "blade" style MAF. It requires a tune to reset the MAF tables, but sets the groundwork for using a 92-102mm throttle body on a FAST or MSD intake. I haven't found much in regards to real-world testing and forum results, but it looks the part and should really give quite a big gulp of air.

Halltech Killer Bee 2

That said, I'm currently using a modified Z06 airbox. According to my tuner, my MAP readings indicate that this intake is still a restriction on my heads/cam combo. So I'll have to upgrade at some point when I'm ready to have it tuned again. But I'll make sure to add several more parts before that happens.

I started out with the Vararam, ran for several years just a pain to install but switched to the Halltech killer bee 2 when I needed the room up front for my stand alone and vacuum pump, prefer the Halltech for the simple install
