Hi,I drove my car a little bit yesterday and when l engaged the parking brake and put the car into park l got a fairly loud bang. Not sure if it backfired so l asked my son but all he tells me is that l baby the car way too much and every once in a while give her hell. I do take her on the highway often but l don't go nuts.I started her up this morning and she ran great as always. Any ideas what this bang was? Thanks.
Almost impossible to tell from the information given. Is your car stock, or do you have any mods? If your car is fully stock, you could check your fuel trim levels. If they're normal, then it likely wasn't a backfire.
Did it bang EXACTLY when you pulled the parking brake? If so maybe the cable was stuck and suddenly gave way when tension was applied. (I've heard them pop before)
Try to tell us exactly when it is you heard the bang.
Did it shake the car or just make a noise.
The car didn't shake only the bang. I believe l put the parking lever up then put the transmission in park then came the bang. The car ran great today with no noise but l am curious to find out what caused that bang. Maybe l am worried for nothing.Thank you for you reply.
Thank you for your reply. Yes, my car is all stock but what is fuel trim level?
Check out this video. It will explain fuel trim levels. Based on what you've said, I doubt it was a backfire. However, this is useful information to know.
Thanks to all for your replies. It was the parking brake cable.Yes, l use my hand brake all the time except when she goes into winter storage. Thanks again.
