Default Air box

Swapping out my 04c5z cam with a btr stage 2. Contemplating if I truly need to swap out my stock airbox since I am not running on the track. How many HP will I really be leaving on the table by not putting on an aftermarket intake? TIA

YES!! Even the LS6 airbox, though better than the LS1 airbox, isn’t adequate, especially when you start modding. I have a Blackwing, and even though it did make a noticeable improvement at the dragstrip, it still isn't a true CAI. If I may make a recommendation, I'd go with a Callaway Honker, a Haltech system, or a Vortex Rammer, not necessarily in that order. The Vararam is a true CAI, but I've read of problems with the air filter not sealing correctly. Hope this helps......

Thanks for the input! If it is due to the amount of air which the airbox allows to enter, what are your thoughts of the zip tie mod that I have heard about. I typically never drive in the rain, unless I get caught while I'm out. Not sure if that makes a difference.

.
Zip tie mod is popular, will increase filtering area, so it will flow more air. Ive only seen pics, never saw the zip tie in person. BUT-It is NOT a true CAI. The Callaway and Vortex systems I mentioned are, at least while moving, a cold air intake. Not sure about the Haltech. The Vortex also claims ram air, hence the "Rammer" name. But you'd probably have to be going 100mph+ to have any ramming capability. The main thing they're good for is getting cooler air to the engine from outside of the engine compartment, instead of from inside the engine compartment. Hope this helps.......

It definitely does help. I will look into those other intakes you mentioned and then decide if the cost is worth it since I am not going to be racing but cruising with some spirited driving here and there.
thanks!

My hatchet-job. I was under the car the other day installing a new lower spoiler (with 1in removed - works fine) - and was surprised how clean the air filter was....

is this flip tie mod different from the regular zip tie mod? Or same with just different verbiage being utilized?

I think this flip tie is different. From the pics ive seen, you just remove the front half of the filter box and zip tie the the filter in place with very long zip ties.

removing the front half and zip tying the filter in place is the zip tie mod? The link he sent shows more work it appears and is the flip tie mod? Difference seems it pulls the air from different side of filter box?
