A couple weeks ago I made a post about my A/C giving out , and my clutch/compressor making a HORRIBLE noise when I turn it on, and then having hot air blow.
Today I got out the gauges and measured the pressure with the AC off at 93 degrees outside. Low and High were both around 90 PSI. This is high but seems reasonable with the high ambient temp.
I assumed my AC clutch was shot, so I didn't expect the pressure to change when I turn the AC on. Well... I turn the AC on, and the compressor squeal is now a dull rattle, and the pressures jumped to 35 on the Low side and 220ish on the high side...
I have no idea what changed. Jumped in the car and the passenger side was ICE cold, but the drivers side was still kinda luke warm. The original squeal only occurred when I had the AC on, so I doubt the squeal was from a blet or due to a bad tensioner.
Is there a fix for one side being hot? Any ideas on why I suddenly stopped having compressor issues?? Thank you for the help as always!
Most likely the blend door actuator has failed. It usually defaults to heat when it fails. I know because mine failed about a year ago. There is an actuator on the drivers side and one on the passenger side. There are some good demos on You Tube on how to swap it out
Thank you for the info, I'll have to add it to my list... I just ran the car again and the compressor started making gross noises again. I think It's time to just replace it. I just need to find a shop to drain my refrigerant for me haha.
I'll probably do a compressor kit, actuators, idler and tensioner pulleys in the drive system, and the harmonic balancer while I am down there
I had to change the Ac compressor on my 99 due to a leaking shaft seal.
Change your accumulator/dryer also and all your o-rings. The accumulator is not bad to get at behind the battery. Don’t forget your new oil charge since the old dryer will take most of the existing oil with it.
I changed the water pump while I was in there. Good thing I planned it because my old one was leaking and I didn’t even know it.
I pulled the right front wheel and it made much easier access to the compressor bolts.
With the imbalance between drivers and passenger side temp you may be low on Freon !!…by the sound that the compressor is making you may need a new one…BTW for future reference please include in your profile your model year, location, mods, tune etc…this helps us help you !!
