My 2nd gear snycro is bad, and I lost my drive train warranty when I put the head, cam, and N2O on the car and I can accept that. But I just learned that the reason my clutch fluid goes black after a couple of days of hard driving is due to a seal that leaks carbon. Now this seal was bad before I did any of the mods, it was there when the car was new. There has been a TSB issued for this seal, which has been known to shorten the life of syncros. Do you think I can argue this case with GM or should I stop my bitching and fix it out of my own pocket.
Next question does anyone know if someone makes a built 6 speed for the C5?
Re: Modded car with tranny issues..... (ICULUKN-C5)
Not entirely sure, but my recollection of this TSB was that GM said the black crap in the clutch fluid was not a problem. If that's correct, they probably won't want to do anything for you on this.
It's still worth a try, though. I would note that higher horsepower and such really should not increase wear on the synchros. The synchros only match speeds of the gears, but have nothing to do with power transfer. A fair number of people think the C5's problem with synchros is due to the rear-mounted transmission, which means there is more mass on the input shaft side (between the clutch and the transmission). That additional mass DOES increase the load on the synchros.
