I have a newly acquired 99 and a majority of the time I start it I get the dreaded pull key message and it dies.
It has had the recall
It does have the lmc5
I have cleaned the key pellet
You can avoid this if as soon as you sit down turn the key on but do not start it. Get your seat in position and seatbelt on then start. I have the same issue from time to time and its does not like trying to insert key and start really fast. I have the bypass too so don't worry about being stranded. Just give it 5secs or so once you put the key in and try to start.

I got the service column lock message recently and was still.able to drive it because I had a tune from ECS. It happened after the car was sitting for awhile. When I went to start the car it cranked a bit and I shut it off before it started, but then immediately started it. After that the service column lock message came up. The column lock would not do anything when I started the car or shut it off. Disconnecting and reconnecting the battery seems to have fixed it for now It looks like my battery may be an issue. Voltage seems to be a little low. I bought a LMC5 and will install it when I get a chance.
