Default E-Brake Ratchet Help

Looking for some advice; my e-brake suddenly won't ratchet or stay in place in anymore.

I took the seat out and removed it, something seems off inside the welded metal mechanism.

Searching around online, the common solution is to just replace the entire e-brake.

Is there a way to fix it, or should will I have to just replace it?

Thanks in advance!

Default Park Brake

That happened to me about ten years ago. Upon detailed examination of the park brake mechanism, I found that the heavy, stiff steel wire that connects from the push button to the ratchet mechanism has a loop at the lower end which can be deformed by pushing hard on the button without FIRST pulling back on the lever to relieve pressure on the ratchet. I concluded that I could fix it, but that effort would require major steel surgery on the park brake mechanism.

I bought a good used park brake mechanism and saved the old one for a future project.
