Re soldering the chips only works when the HVAC lighting is dim or doesn't light up at all. You will have to either replace or send the HVAC to a rebuilder.

Leggy Pete, you didn't mention whether you have the automatic HVAC control or the manual HVAC control.

Automatic HVAC Control

Manual HVAC Control...

I have been having a similar issue with my 2000 Hardtop with the manual control. Unfortunately the manual controller is no longer available so you'll be stuck finding a used replacement. I believe you can still find a new automatic controller if you search for it. I found a used manual controller for my car and replaced my original controller with it, but the problem has persisted. Until I resolve the issue, I'm disconnecting the battery if it it isn't going to be driven for a few days.

I'm beginning to believe that the problem may lie in the BCM with a relay that controls the illumination of the HVAC control panel. I need to send a PM to Bill Curlee and ask his help. Bill is an electrical guru on these cars and has been a great source of help and information for many of us. You can also try sending him a PM by clicking on this link, https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ll-curlee.html

Good luck... GUSTO

Hi all

We bought another unit which was the auto unit at fault as above, when the item arrived one of the lugs at the front with the screw hole has broken off. So off to search for another unit. Thanks for the help.

Leggy Pete, if you can't return it, had you considered trying to repair it with an epoxy adhesive such as J-B Weld?

Or even plugging it in for a few days just to see if it corrects the problem? If it does not stay illuminated, you may be on the right track. If it does stay illuminated (or comes on a day or two later as mined did), the problem may be elsewhere. When I replaced my manual controller it initially turned off, but a day or two later it was back on and draining the battery of course.

Good luck... GUSTO
