Understand that here in San Diego, it rarely gets "truely" cold. But we have a rare storm/coldfront in the redion right now, and last night, with the outside temp indicating 39 degrees, I could break the tires loose almost anytime in 1st or 2nd gear!
Probably a combination of the increased HP and the decreased traction (cold runcraps), but it sure is fun!
The cold is great, as long as you have some good tread on the rear to put the power to the ground...cold weather plus traction and you'll definitely feel the power that engine is making! So your tires actually break loose in the cold...that must be nice...mine hop, and they hop a lot...you hear an extremely loud "BANG BANG BANG BANG" as the tires hop and slam the whole car down over and over with the stupid EMTs...definitely getting new tires over here ASAP! I can't floor it in 1st gear till late spring of I don't!
I have the same problem with wheel hop but not just in cold weather. I've asked for recommendations on this site but no one seems to know what to do. It seems to me there should be something that cpuld be done. Maybe different shocks,or springs or air bags, traction bars etc. I once handled a similar problem on a mustang by installing a second set of shocks (total of four) but that was going to an extreme. Seems that this is a common problem on c5's and you'd think there would be a "standard" fix.
Ah yes, the cold weather. I both love it for the effect it has on performance and then hate it (don't drive it as much) as I store it such that if the weather is clear and no snow/salt on the ground I bring her out for a spin. Had it out yesterday and man it was awesome...sheer animal power. As for the wheel hop, I have Pilot Sports on Mallet wheels (one inch wider than stock) with Bilstein shocks and there's no hop. Even when at the track with the BFG DRs on there isn't any. Let's face it guys, regardless of what the tire wheel set-up, mashing it in 1st. can do more than wheel hop. The runcraps are the worst, perhaps that's your problem.

I thought wheel hop on the c5 was accepted to be caused by wind up of the suspension, caused by soft bushings? If that was the cause it looks like some poly rear bushings would fix it, but im no sure
If "poly rear bushings" will help the wheel hop problem sign me up.
Some how I don't think it is quite this simple.
I have owned "VETTES" for 36 years and can not believe the C5 would
have this wheel hop problem!
