Shocking trouble

I got new front shocks for 2004 C5. When I went to install them my repair manual said I needed a $600 dollar tool to install them. Has anyone did this without this front spring tool. If so how Thanks for ant info. B.Yates

This McRat method I think I can do. I was a chevy tech back in the 60's and 70's and I've owned Vettes since 1969. 9 of them. Thanks for your help. B.Yates
