Default Convertible Trunk will not latch down

2004 CE Convertible
I opened the trunk and when I tried to close it would not latch down.
Has anyone experienced this and what is the fix?
Any help greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the lid's locking mechanism is stuck for unlocking. Spray some WD40 into the mechanism and push the open button several times.

Fixed it. What I think happened: Tried to close the trunk but latch missed the striker. Then I tried to close again but striker hit the already closed latch and jammed so it wouldn’t release.
I removed the latch and actuator. Then removed the actuator from the latch. Then pried on the latch hinge while pulling the manual release. Finally it clicked open and seems to be working fine. I ordered a new latch anyway just to be on the safe side.

Had a similar issue a few years ago on my Vert. Sprayed the locking mechanism with WD40 to clean then use spray silicon annually to luibercate. No further problems
